SHC seeks report from CDGK on children's killing November 6, 2005

KARACHI: Justice Faisal Arab of the Sindh High Court directed the City District Government Karachi (CDGK) on Monday to furnish within two weeks a copy of an inquiry's report into an accident that took place in November last year in which two children died after the taxi they were travelling sunk in an open drain.
The plaintiffs impleaded the CDGK, Karachi Water & Sewerage Board (KWSB), M/s Al-Mehran Builders, contractor supervisors Waqar Awan, Faisal, Fahad and taxi owner Merajuddin and driver Rasheed Ahmad and submitted that on November 6, 2005 they hired a taxi and got into it along with their two children Shayan, aged 11 years, and Ukse Batool, aged 13 years, for Sohrab Goth. They said when the taxi reached opposite Memon Bara Market on Abul Hasan Isphahani Road, at about 7:40 p.m., the taxi driver was unable to see the open drain in the dark due to a lack of any warning sign or safety measures, and the car fell into the 28-feet deep sewerage drain. The children died in the accident.
